Before you start
- Maktabah Shamela installed on an Apple silicon Mac (macOS 13 or later) or on Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
- A ChatGPT plan (Free, Go, Plus or Pro) or a Claude plan (Pro, Max or Team), or your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key.
1. Buy
Choose a plan in Pricing. After payment you’ll get an email with your licence key and the download links for Mac and Windows.
2. Install
Close Shamela first.
- Mac: open Shamela Agent and click Install. If macOS blocks it, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
- Windows: unzip the file, then double-click “Install Shamela Agent.cmd”. If Windows shows a warning, click More info, then Run anyway.
3. Press Connect
Open Shamela, then in Shamela Agent go to ⚙ › Accounts › Connect for ChatGPT or Claude. It installs the official tool if needed, then opens your browser to sign in. To use an API key instead, switch to API key and paste it.
4. Activate your licence
In Shamela Agent, go to ⚙ › Licence and paste the key from your purchase email. Each plan covers 1, 3 or 5 computers; deactivate one to move the licence to another.

Updates and removal
Updates arrive automatically; restart Shamela when the blue button appears next to Settings. To remove it, run Shamela Agent and click Remove (Mac) or double-click “Uninstall Shamela Agent.cmd” (Windows). Your chats stay on your computer.
